One Month and a Long Hospital Stay

On March 22 Emily was one month old. I can hardly believe that a month has already gone by. On that Tuesday we had a couple of visitors planning to come over to see Emily and lots to do at home. That morning I took some one month pictures and of course Jackson wanted in on it too!

Later that afternoon Emily woke up fussy, even after eating (which is very unlike her) and I thought she felt warm. I took her temperature only to find out it was 101.3. After a whirlwind of events we ended up at Children's Hospital. About 36 hours later we were still there and found out that she had an infection that would require IV antibiotics for 7-10 more days. We ended up being at the hospital for exactly a week and got home yesterday. We are so glad to have our little girl home and so glad we are all back together under the same roof. We hope that was Emily's first and last visit to Children's Hospital!

Even though we felt that time stood still in the hospital while the whole world moved on Emily continued to grow and change. She is now doing lots and lots of smiling (can't wait to get pictures of that!) and she is sleeping for a five hour stretch at night (very exciting!).

Baby Hand and Tiny Toes

Is there anything more precious than this? I think I could stare at her little toes all day. They are so cute and little!

She has really long fingers!

I Might Be Biased...

But even with messy hair, this boy is very photogenic...

And talking SO much! He is at such a fun age where he soaks up everything you say and then spits it back out. He is carrying on conversations and saying the funniest things! He asks "why?" ALL. THE. TIME. He LOVES to play outside, especially with his Daddy. He can count to ten (with only a little prompting) and loves to count everything he sees! He loves doing puzzles and can do a 48 piece puzzle all by himself! He loves to read Curious George before nap time AND bed time. He loves to jump, scream and shout as any boy would so with Emmy in the house we are working on inside voice and outside voice. Being two and a half can be hard on all of us at times but we sure love this boy!

Jack and Em

Jackson has been so sweet to his new baby sister. Since he was sick he didn't get to come to the hospital and he didn't get to really touch her or hold her until a few days after we had been home. He kept asking to "hold baby Emmy" and waited very patiently to have a turn. We are teaching him to pat and stroke her gently. He is very curious about her. He comes into a room and asks, "Where's baby Emmy?" or "What's baby Emmy doing?". He hasn't appeared jealous but has been spending LOTS of one on one time with Kevin. I am nervous about when Kevin goes back to work and I have these two kiddos on my own.

Emily had her first doctor visit yesterday and got an excellent report. She is already above her birth weight at exactly 8 pounds. The doctor was pleased to see this and happy with all we reported. Emily is eating 2-3 oz every 2-3 hours and has even gone a few 4 hour stretches.
