Our Ice Storm and "I did it!"

We had some snow/ice here earlier this week. The ice storm really affected us more than usual as school was closed both Monday and Tuesday and started late on Wednesday. Jackson and I were cooped up inside for what seemed like forever but it was also fun to have Kevin home to keep us company. I just wish all the ice had been more snow so we could play. We did venture outside but there really wasn't any snow that we could pick up.

So here is a conversation that I have at least once a day with Jackson:
Me: Jackson, go _______ (wash your hands, take your jacket off, etc.)
Jackson: Ok Mommy, I do it
(1 second later)
Jackson: Help Mommy, Help!
Me: You can do it. Just try!
Jackson: HELP MOMMY! HELP PLEEEEEEEEEASE!
Me: Ok Jackson, Mommy will help you
Jackson: No Mommy, I DO IT!
(1 second later)
Jackson: I did it Mommy! I DID IT!

Life with a two year old definitely keeps me on my toes. I'm constantly reminded of my own selfishness and my need for God's grace and for His patience, kindness and wisdom.

So here is my, "I did it!". I have been doing lots of reading and studying and practicing and today I completed my first hand sewn article of clothing. I made this sweet little dress for our sweet little girl. I had to adjust the size so it would be small enough. I'm hoping it will fit her this summer although I have no idea if or when it will fit. But it was fun and I'm hoping to learn more...

What's that face?

Nothing like a good pout face:

Followed by a big smile:

And trying to pout again but mommy is making him laugh:

Comparisons

It's amazing how much a child grows and changes in a year. Not just physically, but emotionally and mentally too. Last year at this time Jackson was 18 months which still sounds so much like a baby. Now he is two and a half and every bit of it. It's challenging but so much fun. He definitely has a mind of his own, loves to laugh and act silly, but still has time for hugs and kisses.

Here are a couple of action shots:

Happy New Year, New Year Resolutions and New Blog

1-1-11: Happy New Year! I can't believe 2011 is here. I am excited about what this New Year will hold especially since we will be welcoming a new member of our family this year. I love that a new year brings a sense of new beginnings and a fresh start. The Lord is gracious to give us this new year filled with new weeks and new days and new chances.

First of all, about the "new blog". Since baby girl will be arriving soon I will no longer be writing this blog to Jackson but rather about Jackson and baby girl (and maybe other things).

I have several New Year Resolutions for this year and I am really excited about sharing a couple of them. First of all, I love taking pictures (especially of Jackson). I would like to better learn how to use my camera so I am participating in this:

Basically, you are challenged to take one really thoughtful image a week and post it here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/m3bp52/ as part of this group. At the end of the year you have 52 photos that sort of represent a summary of 2011. We'll see...

My other New Year Resolution is to become more knowledgeable about sewing. I know the basics about sewing but I would like to learn more. I would like to be able to sew cute little dresses for baby girl, among other things...

So I plan to be pretty busy this year but doing things that I enjoy. I have a couple of personal resolutions as well and with baby girl coming I may be trying to do too much. Only time will tell but I am optimistic about this new year!
